Self-Talk

Are the voices in your head stopping you from getting the success you desire in life?

Self talk is most definitely why some people succeed and others do not.

Most people don’t realise it, but as we go about our daily lives we are constantly thinking about and interpreting the situations we find ourselves in. There is a constant chitter-chatter, a hum or buzz as though we have internal voices inside our head determining how we see things and what we should do. Psychologists call these voices/voice ‘self-talk‘.   Our inner voice is our conscious thoughts as well as our unconscious assumptions or beliefs.

Most of our self-talk is sensible and sometimes positive such as  ‘I’d better do study for that exam’, or ‘I’m really looking forward to that the game’ or even better ‘I will succeed!’ or ” I can do it!’. However, some of our self-talk can be negative, unrealistic or self-defeating and it is not helpful to your growth or your progress.

Negative thoughts

As a result we can become stuck in a negative cycle where things don’t progress and we seem to attract negative things in our lives.  The universe we live in works by law and the law of attraction states that ‘like attracts like’. It states that every positive or negative event that happens in your life is directly or indirectly attracted by you.

We are simply affected by our thoughts every single moment.  Our thoughts create the world that we see around us and create the situations that we inevitably find ourself in.

Mind - universe

Thoughts become things ~ Mike Dooley

Every action that you take is preceded by a thought.  The thoughts that dominate your mind determine your dominant actions, and those dominant actions determine your life. What you think about, you become; be it good or bad.  Eventually each person eats from the bitter or sweet fruits that their thoughts have produced.

Most people control their cars, their children and many other things but for some reason they feel that they cannot control their lives. You can control your life, and you should! Just as you turn the steering wheel and determine where your car ends up, you have the ability to turn your thoughts and determine where your life ends up.  You are doing it anyway, so why no make it wonderful.

Decide where you want to go in this lifetime, and then give your thoughts over to it.  Think about it day and night, when you wake, and just before you go to sleep, eventually you will see it in your life.

Mould and shape your thoughts just as a Potter shapes his clay.  Stand guard over your thoughts, keeping a close eye on what you allow to enter your mind remembering that each thought will either liberate you or bind you.  Your thought takes you closer to your goal or further away.

Be good to yourself.  Treat yourself to the very best life has to offer.  Remember, quality is not expensive, it’s priceless.  ~ Bob Proctor

Recognising that your current way of thinking may be self-defeating for example, it doesn’t make you feel good, can sometimes motivate you to look at things from a different perspective.

You can conquer your negative self-talk today. Remember, self talk is most definitely why some people succeed and others do not.

The results that you achieving are a direct reflection of the image of yourself of yourself you are holding.  Improve the image and the improvement will automatically be reflected in your results. ~ Sandy Gallagher
