Lifters and Leaners

In every area of our lives, we will find people who will happily do as little as possible and simply get away with it.  On the other hand, there are those who are aim high and work hard.  These few manage to accomplish so much in a given time.  The poem below is thanks to Bob Proctor.  It gives a description of these people and puts them in groups.  When you feel like you are slipping, read this poem and it will aid you in being in the group you want to be in.  Which group do you belong to?  Have a long hard think and make your decision.

Lifters and Leaners

There are two kinds of people on earth today
Just two kinds of people, no more I say.
Not the good or the bad, for ’tis well understood
That good are half bad and the bad are half good.

Not the rich or the poor, for to know a man’s wealth
You must first know the state of his conscience and health,
Not the happy or sad, for the swift flying years
Bring to each man his gladness and to each man his tears.

No, the two kinds of people on earth I mean
Are the people who lift and the people who lean,
And wherever you go, you will find the world’s masses
Are always divided into just these two classes;

And oddly enough you will find too, I ween
There is only one lifter to twenty who lean,
In which class are you – are you easing the load
Of the toilsome toiler who toils down the road,
Or are you a leaner, who makes others bear
Your share of the labor and worry and care?
