21 Top Free Stock Photo Sites

You’re told that you need to use images with your social media post and a website with great photos to gain traction and captivate your audience.  However, what ‘they’ don’t tell you is that you CANNOT and should not just download images by just going to Google.  There are copyrights not only attached to content but to images too.

So what do you so?

You can buy rights to use images but if you’re just starting out, you may not have the budget to do so.  So, I’ve created a list of 21 top FREE stock sites that you can use for your blog or your social media posts.

Before diving in, please note that even though many of these photographs are free from copyright restrictions or licensed under creative commons public domain dedication, meaning that  you can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.  There are some photos will require attribution.  As things change, make sure that you do your own research and determine how these images can be used on each site.

 

Freepik has more than a million free vectors, PSD, photos and free icons. Exclusive freebies and all graphic resources that you need for your projects, personal or commercial.

Creative Commons Search – Helps you find free creative commons photos on Flickr, Fotopedia, Pixabay and many other sites.

Pixabay has over 333,000 attribution-free images and illustrations to choose from. It offers a large collection of free stock photos, vectors and art illustrations. Any photos that they have are released under Creative Commons CC0.

Picjumbo Is another good site for free stock photos for personal or commercial use.  It has a collection of totally free photos for your commercial & personal works. New photos are added daily from a wide variety of categories which is sure to keep you busy.

Superfamous is a site with high-quality images from designer Folkert Gorter.  The photos are free to edit and use but with attribution.

Unsplash adds 10 new high-quality free photos every 10 days and offers a large collection of free high-resolution photos.  It’s one of the best places fro free high quality stock photos. All photos are released for free under the Unsplash license.

Gratisography has free high resolution images for personal or commercial use. There are no copyright restrictions to date.  They update their stock with new awesome photos each week and are all pictures are captured by Ryan McGuire of Bells Design.

Life of Pix is a great site to get high resolution public domain photos, videos and vector images. This awesome resource has been created by the LEEROY creative agency and adds new photos each week.

 

Love Vintage? New Old Stock has vintage photos from the public archives and free of known copyright restrictions.

Splitshire  has a great selection of beautiful, high-quality images with no copyright restrictions to download for your blog or social media posts.

StockSnap.io has thousands of high resolution, beautiful free stock photos and hundreds each day.  The site also has a very handy search feature making it easy to browse through the thousands of images available. In addition, the site tracks views and downloads so you can find the most popular photos available.

Jay Mantri adds 7 new high-quality images every Thursday. You can edit and use without attribution.

Picography contains beautiful high resolution free stock photos, submitted by Dave Meier and various other photographers, to use however you like. All photos are released under Creative Commons CC0.

Pexels has free high quality images that you can use anywhere you like.  They also add 5 new photos every day.

Kaboompics has some breathtaking Free Stock Images for business or personal projects which come attribution free.

 

Burst is a resource from Shopify that provides free stock photos for entrepreneurs. All photos are licensed under Creative Commons CC0 and can be used where ever you like.

 

SkitterPhoto offers a wide variety of free stock photos and are released under Creative Commons CC0. 

Little Visuals comes with a bit of sad news. The owner of the site Nic passed away but his photos remain in his memory. You can read more about Nic here.  All photos that have been posted were released under the creative commons license public domain dedication.

Epicantus contains free original photography by Daria. You can use these high resolution photos for where ever you please and all photos are released under creative commons CC0. 

ShotStash offers a broad range of photos and they add new images every day under a free for commercial and personal use license.
